EXPERIENCES
This area called Varillal is just next to the Allpahuayo Mishana National Reserve. This is a 60 000 hectares with 522 species of butterflies; 1729 species of plants and 247 medicinal plants, 83 amphibian species. There are also 186 reptile species, and 475 bird species 20 of the related to this type of forests and at least 5 of endemic, a record not equaled by any other protected area in the world. A must-visit for birdwatchers and nature lovers. It is a ecosystem combining upland or “Terra Firme” Amazonian forest with patches of white sand.
Bird Watching
This area is a bird watcher’s paradise where new bird species are being discovered every year. A large variety of them can be observed everyday at the Lodge. (on slide)
Monkeys
During your stay you most likely will meet with little monkeys called “Pichico” they’re crossing the property and sometimes stay around the all day. Of course they love organic Bananas but also eat other fruit that are growing here for example ice cream beans ( guava ) they are wild animals but now are use to see people’s and will approach you with less hesitation.
Biking
At Amaca Eco Station we offer bikes which are appropriate for this area. There is a route of average 1 hour round trip with stops and lookout points to visit two lagoons. Another route of average 2 hours round trip with stops and lookout points to explore banana plantations, enjoy nature scenery and observing different plant and tree types.

Surrounding
The “Varillal” forests is a type of ecosystem endemic of Peru. Which means they are not found anywhere else on the planet. And they are only found in the Amazonian departments, especially in Loreto. These ecosystems are located on white sand soils, extremely acidic and poor in nutrients. They are home to flora and fauna specialized to soil conditions. More info HERE
